Indoor Air Quality Solutions in Downtown Toronto

Indoor air in a downtown Toronto suite has three real problems: it's too dry in the winter (single-digit percent RH is common), it's short on fresh air whenever windows stay closed, and the filtration built into most fan coils and furnaces was chosen for airflow, not for particulate capture. Each of those has a different fix, and no single device solves all three.

We spec against what the space actually needs. That usually means a bypass or steam humidifier for houses on a forced-air furnace, an HRV or ERV for airtight newer condos and lofts where windows are sealed, a MERV-13 media cabinet on the furnace for allergy sufferers, and a standalone HEPA in the bedroom for people who want the sleeping-room air specifically clean.

What we don't do: sell 'ionizers,' 'UV air purifiers' marketed at viruses, or ozone generators. The peer-reviewed evidence for those is weak to actively negative, and the honest answer is a good filter and controlled ventilation.

What's included

Whole-home humidifiers

Bypass, fan-powered, and steam humidifiers sized to actual house volume with a real humidistat, not the furnace-mounted knob nobody adjusts.

HRV / ERV installation

Panasonic Intelli-Balance, Zehnder, and Fantech units for condos, lofts, and airtight houses that need controlled fresh air without dumping conditioned air out a window.

MERV-13 media cabinet

Full-size 4" or 5" filter cabinet replacing the 1" throwaway filter — the single best particulate upgrade you can make to a forced-air system.

Standalone HEPA & purifier consulting

We'll tell you which off-the-shelf units are worth buying and where to put them, even though we don't sell them. Honest is repeat business.

Our process

  1. 1In-home or in-suite assessment with a real humidity and CO₂ reading, not a sales pitch.
  2. 2Recommendation prioritized: fix the biggest issue first, add smaller upgrades if they earn it.
  3. 3Install with commissioning and a plain-language handoff on maintenance.

Signs you need this service

  • Static electricity in the winter, cracked hardwood, chronic dry skin
  • Windows fog up on cold days, or the suite feels stuffy after being closed for a few hours
  • Visible dust settles on flat surfaces within a day of cleaning
  • You wake up with a scratchy throat or congestion in a room with the door closed
  • You've done a deep home tightening (new windows, insulation) and now the air feels 'off'

Frequently asked

Do UV lights actually clean the air?+

Coil-mounted UV lights help keep the evaporator coil clean, which is a real benefit. In-duct UV marketed at 'killing viruses in the air' has weak evidence — the air moves through the beam too fast. We install coil UV where it makes sense, and we're honest about the rest.

Humidifier or HRV — which do I need?+

Both problems can coexist. A humidifier adds moisture; an HRV brings in fresh air and recovers heat. A dry, stuffy suite in January often needs an ERV, not a humidifier, because the underlying issue is ventilation.

What MERV rating should I use in my furnace?+

MERV-11 to MERV-13 for most Toronto homes. Anything higher restricts airflow enough to matter unless you also upsize the filter cabinet, which is why we usually spec a 4–5" media cabinet at MERV-13.
